The Village

The village of Capalbio is located in the heart of the Maremma and is seen as one of the most symbolic treasures of the ancient territory. The historical home of the Etruscans and Romans, the village is filled with important traces of their presence, including necropolises and ruins of cities and sacred monuments.

Capalbio is a typical medieval town, characterised by an ancient wall, quaint houses and striking monuments. The historic centre is almost like a step back in time, offering visitors the chance to relive some of the greatest moments of the territory’s history.

Hidden through the streets of Capalbio are buildings and monuments which date back to the medieval period and Renaissance. There are also beautifully maintained churches and palazzos which are home to centuries of art and history. Constructed in the traditional style and architecture of the territory, these buildings are of immense value and pride to the citizens of Capalbio.

For those who are passionate about Italian art and history we suggest you visit the village and its many splendours including the Collegiate Church of San Nicola, a medieval building decorated with priceless frescos, the Oratory of Providence, built just outside the city walls during the 16th century, the Medieval Fortress and the Collacchioni Palazzo, which dates back to the Renaissance.

Along with its historic centre, Capalbio is also blessed with some incredible places of natural beauty. The nearby beaches of the Tyrrhenian Coast are a popular tourist destination not only for locals but also for the rich and famous, and Tarocchi Garden, a park designed in the last ten year by famous artist Niki de Saint Phalle, is also very popular.
