This small region in Southern Tuscany is the least populated area in Tuscany and the majority of its vast space is covered with cultivated fields, woods, hills and valleys crossed by rivers and streams. The towns in the region are jewels of art and culture. Situated high on the hills, they boast views of the incredibly beautiful panorama which stretches from mountains to the sea, passing the numerous vineyards and olive groves which line the fields and valleys.

In Maremma there are many incredibly beauty towns including Capalbio, home to the true and ancient spirit of the Maremma and celebrated for the production of the very high quality wine Capalbio DOC. In the zone of Argentario, the striking promontory on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, there lies the towns of Porto Ercole, Porto Santo Stefano, Ansedonia and Orbetello, undoubtedly memorable for its beautiful lagoon. This beauty is continued in the nearby islands of the Tuscan Archipelago especially Giglio Island. Finally in the heart of the Maremma lies the Maremman Natural Park near Grosseto, Talamone and Alberese.

Internationally, Maremma is best known for its gastronomy and is home to the cuisine which characterises Southern Tuscany. Celebrated and appreciated all over the world, the Maremman cuisine is made up of dishes which are simple and date back to the ancient recipes of the peasants. Most dishes have vegetable bases and use the few products which were found in the territory centuries ago. Specialities include acquacotta, a classic Tuscan vegetable soup, panzanella, a bread salad, and pappardelle, a type of pasta, always homemade with a rich wild boar sauce
